Epic Laundry Basket: Buried. Happy, but buried.

September 10, 2008 by The Chatty DM

Projects are exploding.  I’m solicited from multiple sides.  My sideline “job” as a RPG writer is promising.

All good!

I’m writing the next Kobold Love post slowly and carefully so that I give you a good 1st draft.  I hope to post it this week.

Still good.

TwittRPG is a success, but I won’t keep it up for long, unless I start charging for it.  I have to focus on pushing my work from the freely available column to the pay for Gen Con one.

Less good.

I can’t read blogs or link to all the cool stuff I see anymore.

Not good.

I’ve also slowed my posting schedule (instead of saying I would) so I can work on other project than the blog.

Thanks for understanding, it will be worth it.

133 words.

“I can’t read blogs or link to all the cool stuff I see anymore.”

Yup, I’m familiar with that place. Keeping up multiple projects and a day job to pay the bills doesn’t leave a lot of time for keeping up your online presence.

I’m glad to see your projects going well. Can’t wait to see what comes next.

Why not use http://del.icio.us and one of the widget/plugins to drop a list of things you tag with “rpg” into your sidebar. That works. Easy linkery + zero effort = win!

@ Dave: So that means I can keep your 25% ?

@ Greywulf: Great idea! I just might do that!

    @John: It’s not like I’ll vanish or anything 😉

I know the feeling well I’m afraid. Take your time. It’ll be worth it for all of us I’m sure 😉

I’m sure I can speak for everyone here (with the obvious exception of Dave there 😛 ) when I say that we’ll wait for ya! Best of luck!

    *sigh*…

I wish I could make money from my work…

Unfortunately, my executive producer gets 400% of my gross…

Okay, maybe it’s just me but this blog just hasn’t been the same since Gen Con. I’m back to work and so my free time has gone to nil so maybe it is just me. I miss the old days of multiple Chatty thought provoking posts about the game. I wish you all the best with your rpg projects, I just miss the old ‘chatty’. It feels more like a project management blog now.

I still love ya, Chatty. 🙂

    Lol!

One thing Deadshot is that I don’t want to do easy posts about issues like the Edition Wars and such anymore.

I will continue to write my adventure prep and Campaign logs series.

But I’m way due to write a new Trope post and Finish my revisit of Robin Laws’ book.

Thanks for the honest feedback, just remember that asking me to not change anything is asking me to die a little.

    🙂

    Success can be a killer.

My only advice is to make sure that whatever you do, you do well, even if you end up doing less.

Both these things are true; I am ordained and some religions do make a lot of money…but the benefits for taking Vow of Poverty are so much greater that I’m really better off as is…

Plus I don’t really belong to any real faith…one of the reasons I got ordained in the interfaith subsect…

@Rev: Vow of Poverty: in Gurps this is a great disadvantage to take!

I’m way cool with your career choices man! At least I know where to turn to if my soul turns blacker than night with all the wheeling and dealing required in the RPG industry. =)

    @CDM

Amen on the end of the edition wars discussion. There is an old adage that when a horse is dead its time to dismount. Some gamers are trying to find new ways to reanimate the horse and ride it some more!

However, if all of your posts are well-thought out and prepared do they qualify as ‘chatty’ anymore? Maybe you should institute a “over the rpg fence’ chatty series where you can rift on the easy topics to satisfy those urges and continue to develop your more polished series posts.

By no means do I want you to keep everything the same. After all, if I learned anything from your posts on blogging, its that you have to do it for yourself first and foremost. The audience will adapt. 🙂

@Deadshot: You know what man, that “over the fence” suggestion is very appealing to me. I will seriously keep that idea close when I feel the urge to rant/vent rise!

    Thanks man!
