Chatty Slides back in WoW, Follows Shamus Young

So after 4 years, Shamus Young gave in to MMO.

First it was Guild Wars.  It lasted a few days.  Now he’s joining World of Warcrack… We all know this will not last just one week.

He joined the Kirin Tor RP server and joined the  Pig & Whistle Society (A Rpg.net guild run by Chainmail Bikini graphic artist Shawn Gaston).

Well, I decided to join too.

I made myself a Dranei Mage called Pathuun and Shawn promptly invited me to join (such a nice guy! .

Feel free to join me.  I’ll play a few times a week, after 20h00.  If people are interested, I’ll post a schedule on the forum.

It starts!

Oh yeah, totally unrelated big contest post coming up later tonight or tomorrow morning!

    This is the first time I’ve ever seen anyone join a server that I play on already.

    I’ve got a level 70 on Kirin Tor. My WoW account’s not active at the moment, though.

  3. Are you starting as lowbies or as a high level character?

    I’ve started a Draenei Paladin named Ayetesh (one of the few character classes I haven’t played to the high levels) if you need a level up buddy.

  8. Joining up with friends or an established group goes a long way toward improving MMOs. I played for about six months, but lost motivation near the end when other players had to drop due to computer and time issues.

    That was one of (many) reasons I didn’t play beyond the first few months post-beta. I wanted to play with friends, but they were way more hardcore than I was and leveled way faster than I was able to. Then I was back to basically playing by myself, and decided there were better games for that.

  12. I played a Lot of WoW until recently. I am a pre-med student (Alternative Medicine/Focusing on Naturopathy) so is hard to find the time to play WoW.

    I am now playing DDO, I like it bettor then WoW because is a LOT more party oriented. I like WoW but I found me self soloing a lot and at higher levels grinding for Materials, so I spend Hours looking for one or two materials and not playing the game. So I just came to the conclusion that I rather not pay for a MMO if I don’t play with other people.

    Some think DDO is to linear for a MMO but I like the fact that I can log on, get a group, do a dungeon or two, then log of after 2-3 Hours of fun and all I have to do is sell and repair before I log.

  13. I’ve got a friend who’s into DDO… I’ve tried to get into it a few times so that I could play it with him. I’ve really given it a shot, tried multiple occasions for several hours each time, and I just absolutely can’t stand it. The controls are awkward and unresponsive, combat is unsatisfying, and the graphics are so bland and drab.

  14. This is the first time i ever herd those complaints.=/

    The controls are different but you get used to them, as for unresponsive, never had a problem other then lag.=P
    The combat is a LOT more satisfying then WoW, you can do a LOT more then just stand there, auto attack and click; the combat is a lot faster, monsters move around and change targets, the AI of the NPCs & monsters is a lot bettor then WoW, you can tumble, trip, disarm….is certainly faster and more tactical then WoW.
    Graphics are definably different. At first I thought the same, that the graphics are bland and drab but they are just a different…WoW is cartoony so they are definably brighter, DDO trays for the entire D&D expiriance so they tend to be as realistic as possible, there is a lot of detail to the graphics is just not as bright and cartoony.

    The main reason I like it is because of the party oriented game play. Don’t get me wrong I like WoW a lot but they are two totally different animal that the only thing they have in common is that they are both MMOs.=P

  15. Personally, I won’t play any game that I have pay to play. I don’t mind buying games (I keep my budget reasonable, I only buy a few a year), but I don’t like to pay every month for something that I’ve already paid for… And then have to pay again for expansions.

    I played Guild Wars for a little bit, but some of the stuff was too dependent on having a group. I want a good mix, and Guild Wars didn’t seem to have it. It reached a point where I felt like I either couldn’t level because the things I could kill weren’t rewarding enough, or I couldn’t kill the things that would give enough experience unless someone else were around.

  16. Muwahahaha! Le Bleu you’ve fallen into my trap and you never even saw it coming! All ur time belongz to me! Muwahahahaha!

    You’re also missing out on all the great company over on Shadow Council where your Nemsis and newb DM play. Just know that leveling is stupidly easy now compared to just a few months ago so you’ll be racing through the levels in no time. There’s lots and lots to explore, long quest lines with neat stories and the potential to meet some great people.

  17. @Loky: I tried DDO too and liked it because it really captured D&D. When I saw my buddy get mauled by a Rust Monster, I was hooked… but the game got too repetitive too fast for me… and I got dragged back to Wow.

    @GI Mike: Soooo you dare come in and slander my good name like a cheap red light whore? Know this that if and when I step in that Shadow Council, it will be to take it over and strip all your alt naked and string them at the gates of Stormwind like a cheap Popcorn wreath!

  20. Hehe… just found this blog and everything. Caught my interest cause I’m a noob DM always looking for musings and such from other DMs, but this post… only thing I have to say is FOR THE HORDE!!!! lol. WoW can get really addicting. My account is currently expired, but I’m itching to play again, lol. Have fun with your Draenai, lol. I do have access to a friend’s account… so maybe I’ll create an ally on that server in hopes of running into you at some point. Doesn’t take me long to do the beginning levels, lol.

    Actually i am 2 or 3 years clear and don’t have to fight so hard.

    Hands up and introduce yourselves people, your addicts but thats ok, acceptance is the first step towards positive change 🙂
