"Dammit Jim, I'm a Doctor… and an asskicker"

October 23, 2007 by Dave

Bartoneus, Sucilaria, and I all got to talking before the D&D game last Saturday about the new Star Trek movie. There’s some good choices, and some surprises too. Empire Online has a side by side comparison of the old actors and the new, and asks you to vote if the casting is good or not. Simon Pegg as Scotty is totally awesome to me (but to me, Simon Pegg as anything is totally awesome), and Eomer as Bones is certainly the strangest one. All around, though, the casting has turned this from “another Star Trek movie” to something worth checking out.

Any bets on what role Shatner will play? James Kirk Senior? Kirk from the future? Wise old Starfleet Academy janitor?

That’s all he plays, that’s all he is really.

ok Simon Pegg I can see, if were looking for a thinner scotty.

But John Cho as sulu? ehhhh Ive seen Harold and Kumar one to many times to see him in a serious roll.

But what Im really going to have to see some good acting in is Karl Urban as Dr.McCoy… hes serious yes…but is the intensity and “oh man why me” attitude there?

    Pegg is awesome…Cho is ridiculous…

Quinty (Sylar) is a surprisingly good match, but I’ll have a tough time of distinguishing him from the telekinetic sociopath I’m used to seeing…

A former Neo-Nazi hitman becomes Kirk…I think he’s a decent actor, but I’ll have to actually see it to tell if he’s any good for playing Senor Capitan…

Simon Pegg as Scotty is worth the price of admission.

Anyone who has seen Shaun of the Dead knows the man has the acting range to do -anything-.
