"Dave's job is good for everybody but Dave." --Kory
More Examples That Sum Up Everything
Lady comes in and places an order for a photo enlargement for a funeral. The photo is copyright, but we work with her to obtain permission to reproduce, and we say we'll spend some extra time removing the copyright symbol on the front of the photo to make it look nicer at no extra charge. At the time of placing the order she mentions she has a coupon. We say bring it in at proof time which is when the job is rung up. She brings it in, and the coupon expired four years ago. For some reason, we take it anyway.
Lady comes in and places an order for a photo enlargement for a funeral. She needs an exceptionally quick turnaround. We work with her to give her the quick turnaround. She calls while we're working on the job and asks for us to save the file on a CD for her that we're going to use for the enlargement, and she wants the final product to be a larger size. We say that's going to cost more, and she says fine. She comes to pick up the job and starts saying how outrageously high the total is. We explain that she was told the job would cost more, and if we hadn't have been under such a rush, we could have given her a quote for the final job with the proof that she didn't want to see. She changes tactics and says she's a government employee and demands her discount for being a government employee. We explain that, like all special pricing, that's only if you do a job FOR THE GOVERNMENT, not your own personal project. She says she doesn't see any sign stating this, and demands to see a manager. Manager comes out and gives her the discount, telling her that we're only going to do it this once. I have since stormed off to my corner to work on something else. She comes over and thanks me for all my help.
Lady comes in and places a banner order for a birthday. Finally, a happy occasion! She says she doesn't know what size she wants, so I show her several different options, and she selects a fairly big banner. She wants us to type up the banner and enlarge a photograph on it, which means we'll have to print it in full color. She asks a lot of questions about what her banner should say. (However, she's opinionated about what the banner should LOOK LIKE, which is a reversal of a normal customer who knows what they want to say but will let us use our training to design it.) I entered the order in, and give her a total. She says that's too high, she got a banner the same size last year and it was half as much. I say we haven't changed our prices in several years, if you got the exact same type of banner in this size that's how much it will cost. She says it was "definitely" the same size and had the same sort of thing on it, but it was cheaper, and she wants as discount. I say we can't just give discounts to anyone who asks for it, we'd go out of business. And besides, the computer comes up with the price, not me. She asks again if I'm sure we can't give a discount. I say no, I could get fired for just giving out discounts. She asks again for a discount. I say no and give her her receipt. She calls later after I've left and already printed her proof of her design if I can change the colors completely and add extra graphics. I'm not adding extra graphics.

Welcome to Work! (scary clown noises)
I walk in, and what do I discover:
-Half the work I left last night was uncompleted
-One of the orders has a coupon attached that expired 4 years ago
-My nice LCD monitor has some big scratches on it
-Several piles of work have mysterious notes on them that explain nothing
-A note on my keyboard saying to call another branch to help their Sign guy who doesn't have proper training.
