We’re hopefully back to some semblance of our normal schedule here at Critical Hits, between our hosting going wonky, me having indefinite bouts of sucking, and Dave going through the layers of hell known as Graduate School / End of the Semester we have really fallen behind here. Oh, and the fact that Rock Band apparently acts as some bizarre vortex into which you unwittingly toss your spare time doesn’t help the situation either. Looking back two weeks time at our last Inquisition poll, we really gathered some useful information! The most obvious is the fact that everyone who voted plays some kind of game, more interesting however is that 79% of you play Computer Games, 74% of you play both Console Games and Tabletop RPG’s, and 63% play Board games. I’m very happy with that poll, long-lived as it was, because now we are sure of what our audience leans more towards, or perhaps what kinds of audiences we would like to attract more of.
Then last week Dave asked the question of what you think are the best games ever, to which he got some of the expected answers such as Magic: The Gathering and D&D, with some KOTOR and Super Mario Bros. thrown in. I was surprised to see mentions of Nethack, Go, Paranoia, and Hide & Seek, and I will definitely have to talk to Crakula about Survive! and Crokinole as I’ve never even heard of them (that I’m aware of). Obviously Final Fantasy and Starcraft were mentioned, along with Settlers of Catan which I’m surprised was only brought up once. The great part of Dave’s question is the fact that we got completely different answers from each person, and the reasonings behind it can be as varied as the people playing the games.
This week we MUST put an end to a growing feud amongst our group of friends:
Feel free to add band names in the comments, and we’ll do our best to add some of them in if enough people think they’re better!

Logs in and clicks “Close Poll”…
And with 100% of the vote, THAC0 is the winner!
(just kidding)

Oh, and fab pic of Andy on the drums btw.

Aren’t the Minibosses a real band that covers video game sound tracks? I assume that THAC0’s first album would be a two disk set: Critical Hit/Critical Failure detailing the epic rise and fall of the band/adventurers.

Minibosses and NESkimos are both real bands. They also have great band names, which is why I requested their inclusion.

It’s got to sound like an inside joke, but everyone still has to get the joke. Tough line to hold…

‘Twas between THAC0 and Rock Into Mordor for me…it appears I’ve picked the underdog…

Personally I really don’t think THAC0 is really a very good band name. Sure, its geeky, but its not funny or catchy like most of the others. Atma is really much better for the same number of syllables - it is nerdy, is a more obscure reference, and is actually pleasant and fun to say.
But I voted for Rock Into Mordor, both for the seemingly-on-the-surface but actually obscure nerd reference, the creativity, and the delight I get every time I say the name.

they-ko?
thack-zero?

Thay-ko…I hear the death metal narrator say it when I read it…thus, it’s my #2 pick…

We say “thack-oh” here, but I’ve heard plenty of people use “thay-ko.” But the band’s proper name, of course, is “To Hit Armor Class Zero”. We’ve opened for “…And you will know us by the trail of dead”

Some day I’ll let you open for Rock In To Mordor, as well.

Hmm, sounds like a challenge… is there a battle of the bands online mode in Rock Band? There should be. Seems like the only way to settle these things, and indeed, anything of note ever.
