For a Great Cause (and Great Justice!)

Child's Play FTW!I hope that the Thanksgiving break was marvelous for all, and that everyone’s holidays are splendid and joyfilled.  What I wanted to share today was that I was very touched by Gabe’s (from Penny Arcade) post today about their charity Child’s Play.  Please take a moment to check out the site, it is a charity set up to collect and bring games, toys, and all around joyous feelings to children in hospitals around the world

This time of year is particularly important for these children who cannot or are not home for what should be the most festive time of the year, and this seems like the perfect way for us all to give and help other’s lives.  I really can’t put it at all as effectively as Gabe did, so I’ll share his words here:

If you haven’t picked anything up yet please give it some thought. It might just be a couple coloring books or even a package of batteries. Trust me when I tell you that anything, no matter what it is will be very much appreciated by these hospitals. Don’t think that just becasue you can’t get the kids a PS3 you can’t help. Some simple things like Playdough actually need to be thrown away after each use.  Certain items that the kids like to play with collect germs and can only be used once. They can never have too many containers of the stuff. Or too many batteries for that matter. Or coloring books or markers. Believe me when I tell you that you could spend five dollars and really make a difference.

They’ve done exceedingly well with the charity over the last three years, and they have hospitals involved all around the country and in other countries.  At their main site you can see the map with all of the hospitals listed, locally for us there is Children’s National Medical in Washington, DC.  I strongly encourage you to at least look into it, tell your friends, and help some children out during the holiday season of giving.  Thank you and come back tomorrow for the second installment of the Critical Hits Gift Guide!
