Why I love Gail Simone and hate John Byrne (in one panel)

Obviously Byrne is on everyone’s shit-list right now, for very good reason, but what specifically about the art here do you dislike? (other then that it was done by him)
The face of the Atom seems extremely flat (a problem I often have in my own work), which is in most part due to how weirdly the eyes were drawn. Just curious about this specific panel.
What should be a very horrific scene with the Atom flipping out just seems lame. Every issue I read of this I love the writing but almost have to avert my eyes to what’s going on in the art… which is bad for a comic.
I mean, come on, a CoC rpg reference in a comic? That’s awesome.

“THE ALL-NEW ATOM #6
Written by Gail Simone
Art by Eddy Barrows & Trevor Scott”
Haha, if Byrne is off the book, I’ll add this to my pull list!
