Danny kinda made my point, my point was just that the mechanics of the game did not inspire a die-hard passion like WoW and some others. It very well may have been the best MMORPG in your opinion, but it failed to "keep your ass in the seat" for more then a few months.

To me, the issue was mismanagement on the original around the things that Josh doesn't list. I think his point is that you could tweak the game to keep all those things that he enjoyed (and indeed, I heard many other people enjoyed) but overhaul the stuff that really wasn't working.

The market is heavily impacted already with the sort of game it sounds like they're changing it to, and I for one would be more interested in playing a game that doesn't play like everything else AND has a really awesome license that just another quest-fight-repeat game.

Then again, my tastes may not be where the market is at, but the viewpoint of making interesting gameplay is _A_ market.

The point remains that you did not, in fact, play for a very extended period of time. The goal of any company is not to get the people who don't normally play MMORPG's to play for a short amount of time, their ultimate goal is to get everyone who plays it to play it for as long as humanly possible.

I understand your entire point, that it was so innovative and fun that it got even -you- to play for a decent amount of time, but in the end they still failed to get a large market of loyal subscribers to play their game.

The fact that I only played for around two months has more to do with me than the system. While I never progressed very far, I progessed FURTHER than any other MMORPG. It kept my intrest the longest out of all of them. While all other MMORPGs have only been good for a few hours at best of my time, SWG managed to capture months worth. From someone who is actively hostile to MMORPGs in the first place, that's a very telling statement.

You're quoting me out of context here.

"I never really progressed very far, honestly..."

Sadly, I think that says it all. It's a neat dynamic, very nifty, and one I certainly appreciate as an idea, but does it keep people playing and subscribing? I doubt it, and while Sony might not be my favorite company right now you have to figure they want to make some money. If they can't make money on a freaking Star Wars MMORPG maybe they need massive overhaul. I tend to agree that PS3 is a rather poor venue for the product though...

There is an exception to your argument and that is the uber-failure: Shadowbane. Guilds in that game could create cities, but the game ended up being awful as a single guild would just dominate an entire server completely ending all warfare. WoW does do a good job in it's questing system by alleviating at least some of the grinding boredom with an oppurtunity to do certain missions in order to get cool gear. MMORPG's are a real acquired taste though. I've only really seen people who either love them or hate them.
